The Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G continues Xiaomi’s tradition of offering impressively powerful hardware that often surpasses flagship phones—all at a price point that won’t break the bank. The Pro Plus model stands as the top-tier option in the latest Redmi Note 14 series. But what’s new compared to the previous generation, and does it maintain its status as the budget champion?
In this review, we unbox the device, explore its features, dive into its gaming capabilities, and evaluate its camera performance.
What’s in the Box?
Opening the box reveals a solid package that includes the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G itself, along with a few essential accessories:
- 120W Power Adapter: Xiaomi continues to include a fast-charging brick in the box, which is a huge plus for users looking to power up quickly.
- Type-C to Type-A USB Cable: For fast data transfer and charging.
- Protective Case: Xiaomi throws in a “condom case” to keep your device protected right out of the box.
All in all, Xiaomi provides a comprehensive package that ensures you’re ready to go from the moment you unbox the phone.
Design: Premium Build with Practical Features
The Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G sports a sleek design with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display, surrounded by slim bezels. The device is curved at both the front and back, offering a comfortable hand feel and easy one-handed use. Despite being a mid-range device, the build quality feels premium, with a good heft that doesn’t scream “cheap.”
The Vegan Leather back on the purple model provides a soft touch and excellent grip. Plus, it’s resistant to smudges and fingerprints, which is a blessing if you tend to have greasy hands. Other color options come with a glass finish, though many prefer the leather back for its added texture and durability.
The camera bump, though large, is functional as it provides a convenient finger shelf when holding the device. The Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 up front adds a layer of durability, making the device scratch and shatter-resistant. The phone also boasts IP68 water and dust resistance, making it a reliable companion even in adverse conditions.

Software: A Step Forward with HyperOS
Running on Android 14 with HyperOS Version 1, the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G offers a sleek, fast experience. Although it’s not the latest version of Android (no Android 15 out of the box), Xiaomi typically provides three OS updates and four years of security patches, which is reassuring for long-term users.
The HyperOS interface is a step forward from MIUI, providing a lighter, more streamlined experience. You get standard Android features, like the Google Discover Feed and App Tray, and it’s easy to disable Xiaomi’s bloatware. While you might have to spend a bit of time during setup removing some pre-installed apps, the overall experience is much cleaner.
AI features also make an appearance with AI-driven photo and video editing tools, real-time translation, and automatic speaker identification during meetings.
Display: Stunning AMOLED with Dolby Vision
The 6.67-inch AMOLED display is one of the standout features of the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus. With a resolution of 2712 x 1220 pixels (1.5K), it delivers vibrant colors, deep blacks, and sharp details. The display supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 streaming, making it ideal for watching movies and videos in high definition.
While the display is slightly brighter than its predecessor, the difference isn’t immediately noticeable, but it’s still bright enough to be used comfortably outdoors on sunny days. The display also features a 120Hz refresh rate, making scrolling and animations buttery smooth.
Audio-wise, the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus features stereo speakers that provide clear and loud sound with good bass. While there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, the audio quality is still top-notch, with the option to customize sound settings via Dolby Atmos.
Performance: Powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 3
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset powers the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G, a significant upgrade from last year’s MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra. You can choose between 8GB or 12GB RAM, with my review model featuring the latter.
In everyday use, the phone performs smoothly with minimal hiccups. However, during gaming, the performance is a bit more mixed. While games like Genshin Impact and Wether and Waves run at higher graphics settings, you will notice some frame rate dips during intense action scenes. Reducing the graphics quality can help improve the experience, but this phone isn’t quite at the level of premium flagship devices for gaming.
On the plus side, the phone remains relatively cool during extended gaming sessions, even after an hour of play.
Battery Life: Long-Lasting with Fast Charging
With a 5,110mAh battery, the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G offers solid battery life. While it’s smaller than some rivals, such as the Honor Magic 7 Lite with its 6,600mAh battery, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3‘s efficiency helps keep battery drain to a minimum. You’ll comfortably get through a full day of use with moderate gaming, camera usage, and browsing.
Additionally, the 120W fast charging support is a game-changer. Even if your phone is completely dead, it can be fully charged in under 30 minutes. However, there’s no support for wireless charging, which is a bit disappointing in 2025.
Cameras: 200MP Primary Shooter and AI Features
The Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G features a 200MP primary camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The camera performance is solid, but don’t expect huge leaps from the previous generation. In good lighting, the camera produces highly detailed shots, with accurate color capture. Low-light performance is decent, but it does struggle with moving subjects or when conditions aren’t ideal.
Xiaomi continues to offer a full range of camera modes, including Portrait, Night Mode, and a Pro Mode for those who want to manually adjust settings. The AI-enhanced photo editing tools are also included, allowing you to remove objects or people from images, though they’re not perfect.
The secondary cameras include an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro camera. Video recording supports up to 4K at 30fps, and 1080p at 60fps. The 20MP front camera offers decent selfies, with stabilization that helps smooth out shaky footage.
Verdict: A Solid Mid-Range Option with Few Surprises
The Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G is an excellent choice for those looking for premium features without the flagship price. While there aren’t massive upgrades compared to the previous generation, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, AMOLED display, and 120W fast charging make it a compelling package.
For gamers, the device might not be the best choice if you’re looking for the highest performance, but for general users, it offers great value. The camera performance is solid, but again, not a huge leap from last year.
If you’re upgrading from an older Redmi or any other budget phone, the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G will feel like a significant step up. However, if you already own the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus, the new model may not offer enough improvements to justify the switch.
Pros:
- 120W fast charging (charges from 0 to 100% in under 30 minutes)
- Excellent AMOLED display with Dolby Vision
- Solid battery life despite a smaller battery capacity
- Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 for smooth performance
- IP68 water and dust resistance
Cons:
- Gaming performance is not on par with premium devices
- No microSD card support for expanded storage
- No wireless charging support
- Minor software quirks in HyperOS
For a phone that blends premium features with affordable pricing, the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G is a great option—especially if you’re upgrading from an older device.
